Truck Off and Carleton Place

Planned on doing a lot of hounding this weekend.  On Friday, I went to something called a "Truck Off" at the Ford dealer near my house to see Matt Duchene and Cody Ceci of the Sens.  First, they showed of a couple of new cars, and three gas guzzling 4x4s.  While we were waiting in line for autographs, they passed out slips of paper asking which of the 5 cars showcased was the best.  I wrote in Festiva and put it in the ballot box for a signed jersey.  I can't imagine why I didn't get a phone call!  Anyways, I got up to the table they were sitting at and they each did 4 for me and they turned out nice.

Saturday I was supposed to go with Beth to Brossard to hound the Women's teams, but it was to cold and Brossard Arena isn't exactly autograph friendly at the best of times.  We both said "Screw it!" and we stayed home.

Today (Sunday), I went to Carleton Place for the NHL Alumni.  Owen Nolan was supposed to be there so it was the main reason I went.  I got there and I saw someone carrying his bag in, and asked where he was.  It turned out I missed him by about 5 minutes.  Then I saw Rick Vaive and Jay Wells and they both signed for me.  I didn't stay for the game since I had other things to do, but I came back near the end of the third period.  I stood by the locker room where the players were coming out.  I asked if anyone had seen Owen Nolan, and they said he ducked out in the middle of the second period.  I wasn't too upset.  My reaction was similar to this.  I wasn't shocked, but still disappointed.  I managed to get Matthew Barnaby, and Brent Gretzky coming out.  Matt was fun to talk to, as I mentioned the 1997 series vs. Ottawa.  I waited for Mike Krushelnyski, who was sitting in the cafeteria eating pizza.  He signed my stuff and we chatted about his playing days, and showed me his 4 Stanley Cup rings.  I went out to my car and saw that Al "From Mullet to Skullet" Iafrate parked next to me.  I asked if he could sign and he somewhat begrudgingly said one.

All in all, a good weekend.  I had some fun chatting with players, which I like doing as much as getting the signatures.

Total:

Cody Ceci x4
Matt Duchene x4

Matt Barnaby x6
Brent Gretzky x5
Al Iafrate x1
Mike Krushelnyski x9
Rick Vaive x5
Jay Wells x8

National Hockey Card Day

I guess Upper Deck's sales are slow this time of year, so they created a "holiday" for hockey collectors!  You get a free pack of cards when you step into a certified hobby dealer, so I hit up the card stores in the area and made out with a few packs, as well as some purchases.

Thoughts:  I always wait until later in the year to purchase this product because the wrapper redemption is over and it's usually cheaper.  I'm not a big fan of the playing cards and it's design.  It was nice to pull some rare cards and a patch card as well as a decent looking base set.  Not a bad start.

Thoughts:  Well, at least I pulled a couple of Sens cards to get signed!  I decided to get the retail since I'm cheap and poor.  The Beliveau Canvas was a surprise (not as big a surprise when I looked at it's BV on Beckett!).  As usual, the photography is nice, and the OPC Update cards are a continuation of this year's set, as opposed to being a separate set as in the past.  Overall, not a bad break.
